' Tasmania's Allan Barnett and his fine, efficient but traditional looking
fishing boats are no stranger to these pages.
'Emnicus' follows much the same line of versatile, environmentally friendly vessels.
At current fuel prices, there will surely be many lobster and other fisherman looking
enviously at the economic that can be achieved by finely shaped, relatively low-powered
craft such as this.
Originally commenced as a "spec" boat, 'Emnicus' was subsequently sold off to Galaxy
Fishing Co. of St Helens on Tasmania's east coast. Operated by Theo Hairon, the Allan
Muir-designed boat has been fitted to chase prctically every species able to be fished in
Tasmania's rapidly reducing fishing grounds.
She can catch scallops, crabs, lobster and various longline target species with equal facility.
Her problem, possibly will be in finding available ground following the recent savage
imposition of enormous Marine Protected Areas throughout Tasmania's waters.
A very good looking and well finished vessel, 'Emnicus' is equipped with the best
of everything. From her 267kW Cummins NTA 855 main engine and Cummins 100kW and 60kW
auxillaries to her Furuno, Simrad and C Plot electronics and to her Mustad Auto long line
system, she has "the lot".
With a range of 3,000 nautical miles achieved at a comfortable nine knots, she can roam far
and wide. Fuel consumption is a very economical 50 litres per hour or 5.5 litres per mile.
Not bad!
In addition to the Mustad Auto gear, the boat is fitted with electro-hydraulic deck crane,
a scallop winch and a crab/lobster pot winch.
A very attractive, well built small ship in the usual Allan Muir and Allan Barnett style.
