'FISHERMEN BUILDING BOATS FOR FISHERMEN'

The interest being shown in these Tasmanian designed and built boats stems largely from Allan Barnett's wish to maintain a small group of shipbuilders producing work of the highest quality.

The shipyard employs a very experienced team, most of which have been working for the company since it constructed its first fishing boat.
A huge advantage of a fisherman designing and building boats for fishermen is that he understands the importance of a design that is practical, efficient, reliable and maintenance friendly.
From design to completion, Allan Barnett maintains tight control of the high standards he expects from his dedicated band of employees, suppliers and subcontractors.
This is evident in Boat Building Australia's boats and includes:
  • All external stanchion posts and longitudinal rails etc. are fully welded not stitch welded, as seen on the majority of other boats. This eliminates any future maintenance problems of rust leaking from behind seams.
  • All steel is fully sandblasted and zinc coated before construction. The hull is then sandblasted and zinc-coated again, after construction is completed. This ensures the hull is given the ultimate preparation for further paintwork.
  • The superstructure is fabricated from marine grade aluminium. This not only benefits the stability of the boat, but also lowers the long-term maintenance in an area of the boat that often lacks adequate attention.
  • Areas of the boat that experience excessive wear, by such things as fishing equipment, are fabricated with 316 marine grade stainless steel.
  • All plumbing throughout the boat including bilge lines, tank lines, fuel lines, water lines, fuel and water fillers and valves are constructed of 316 marine grade stainless steel to prolong life and eliminate maintenance.
  • Windows are fabricated from marine grade aluminium frames fitted with toughened high-grade glass.
Three of Allan Barnett's latest boats have featured on the cover of the well-known magazine Professional Fisherman. Click the image on the right to read the complete article.
